How To Help

Want to help rescue rats?  Looking to provide support to (the only) Southern New Mexico Rat Rescue, or start a rescue effort of your own?  Here's some things you can do to help the cause.

Donate
If you've benefited from any of the information on this blog, or want to support my rat rescue efforts in Southern New Mexico, please consider donating.  I accept donations through Paypal, and also am always happy to take food, bedding, cages, etc. Email me at wolfskin24 (at) gmail.com if you're interested in helping out.

Foster
Have space in your home and your heart for a few extra furry friends?  I'm always looking for people to help aid my rescue efforts.  Drop me a line in my email or comment anywhere in my blog with some way of getting hold of you.  I'll add you to my mailing list and that way whenever a rat becomes available needing a home, I can contact you.

Educate & Inform
Be a rat ambassador everywhere you go.  Politely and diplomatically help people to understand how awesome rats are and how they deserve the same love, compassion, and medical care as any other pet, and encourage people to adopt a homeless rat rather than buy one from a pet store.  If you know people with snakes, try to encourage them -- for the health of the snake as well as the humaneness for the rat -- to feed frozen rather than live.  Every little thing you can do helps.

Be All That You Can Be
No, I don't mean join the army.  Be the best rat owner you can by continuing to learn and offer the best possible life for the animals in your care.  Don't choose to take on a pet that you can't care for, and don't let yourself take on more than you can handle.  Don't breed your pets.  Don't select a pet you cannot afford.  By being a smart, conscientious owner, you can ease the burden of rescue groups by putting fewer at-need pets on the market.
