New Mexico Rat Resources

Do you live in New Mexico and are looking for some rat resources?  Trust me, I know how hard it is!  I'm always looking to add more information here, so if you know something I don't, drop me a line so I can update it.

New Mexico Rat-Friendly Veterinarians
Las Cruces
Calista Animal Hospital: The vet I personally use.  Dr. Calista is a sweetheart and really does love rats.  She also accepts suggestions well.  She is the only person on staff who sees rats, but they are a big clinic with lots of vets for your other animals, too; they see my dog and cats also.  Price is also very reasonable, and they're willing to work with you if you explain your situation, especially once they get to know you.

East Lohman Veterinary Clinic: Before I started using Dr. Calista, I came here.  Dr. Cook is also a good vet, although a lot of her information (about rats, anyway) is a bit out-dated.  I always got the impression that rats were not her favorite patients.  A friend of mine takes her cats here, though, and absolutely loves her.  Price is a bit higher than Calista's.

Nearby Rat Rescues & Reputable Breeders
Some states, like California, are chock-full of rescues.  New Mexico is just not one of those states.  To my knowledge, I am the only person doing rescue work in any even remotely "official" capacity in the state, or at least the Southern part.  And considering I'm just a gal with a few extra cages, an eagerness to drive, and a slight flair for networking, that's pretty sad.

Any Rat Rescue (Tucson, AZ) - I've worked with the folks at Any Rat before and they're pretty awesome, very professional, knowledgeable, just great people.  They've got my number and send people my way sometimes, as they do field a lot of calls from New Mexico.  If you're interested in adopting some rats through Any Rat Rescue and need transport, please contact me.  I am willing to make a trip out to Tucson to pick up rats and can foster short-term and/or make delivery arrangements throughout Las Cruces, Deming, El Paso, Alamogordo, etc.  I may need some money to put toward gas for this venture, and you'll have to work out the details of the adoption with the ARR folks.
